Aharenge Bank Community Fund is an initiative by Bank of Maldives to empower individuals to contribute to their communities through sustainable projects, and create a positive impact on the ground.
School Library at Maaemboodhoo
Nashid Adam Naseer, a teacher from Dhaalu Maaenboodhoo School had a goal to instill the love of reading among his students! Under the Aharenge Bank Community Fund, Nashid was able to renovate the school library at Dh. Maaenboodhoo. The library was equipped with over 700 books, new shelving and seating.
Naifaru - Shaded areas near the school
Naifaru Juvenile is an NGO passionately who have been working for the betterment of Lhaviyani Naifaru community for over 19 years. They identified a need for shade structures at the school for students and parents to use at school drop-off and pick up times. Supported by the Ahrenge Bank Community Fund, these structures are a source of relief for the parents and students.
Dhangethi – Eliminating Single Use Plastic
Ibrahim Farushaan, born and raised in Alif Dhaalu Dhangethi, is passionate about the ocean and the environment. His idea was to make his home island a single-use plastic free place, and raise awareness about the effects of single use plastic. Under this Aharenge Bank Community Fund project, almost all the households in Dhangethi now use environment-friendly reusable tote and net bags sourced from ZeroWasteMV.
Nellaidhoo Community Park
As the first project under Aharenge Bank Community Fund, a community park was opened in Haa Dhaalu Nellaidhoo. Hamid Rasheed, a young and passionate individual from Haa Dhaalu Nellaidhoo envisioned a space for the island community to gather and spend time together. Today, the Nellaidhoo Community Park is a natural space for recreation and relaxation that brings the community together.
Opening of a new Basketball Court at the ‘Ekuveni’ outdoor area
We have partnered with the Maldives Basketball Association. The partnership between Bank of Maldives and MBA will see the Bank support the training of young basketball players as well as the association’s infrastructure requirements. Over 1,000 players will go through the program over the next three years.

We are strongly committed to keeping the environment clean and will continue to work to this end with local communities.
Special awareness and screening session held to raise awareness on World Cancer Day 2018
We started the day with a special assembly held in Meemu Dhiggaru to commemorate World Cancer Day. We held a series of cancer screening sessions in Meemu Dhiggaru in partnership with the Cancer Society of Maldives. Over 600 people from the atoll were screened during these sessions.
Series of workshops on financial literacy held in schools
Learning how to make informed decisions about personal finances and savings at a young age is more important now than ever, and our staff are proud to play their part.
Our staff donated books to the F. Nilandhoo Public Library
We launched a nationwide corporate social responsibility (CSR) program which will support communities based in all atolls. Under this initiative, all of our branches will be allocated a budget to support community projects in their region.The program kicked off at an event held in F. Nilandhoo where our staff donated books to the Nilandhoo Public Library.
Donation of learning aids
We donated learning aids to support the children who attend "Ummeedhu", a special class for students with learning disabilities at the Dhaalu Atoll Education Centre in Kudahuvadhoo.
Donation of swimming gear
We donated swimming gear to support the community in HA. Kelaa. We are proud to do our part to promote the development of swimming, with a particular focus on its benefits to the lives of communities as an active lifestyle sport.
Staff blood donation
We held a special event to support Maldivian Blood Services where a number of our staff donated blood.
BML Annual Staff Charity Run 2018
We held our annual staff charity run where we raise funds to support charitable organizations in Maldives. This year, we raised MVR 90,000 for the Maldives Autism Association, MAPD and Beautiful Eyes Downsyndrome Association.
Donation of motorized wheelchairs
As part of our annual outreach activities, we are pleased to continue our support for people with impaired mobility across the Maldives. This year’s program was launched today at B. Eydhafushi where we donated a motorised wheelchair to a young member of the community.
Supporting the community of Hulhumeedhoo
We were delighted to have supported the community of Hulhumeedhoo with a special donation to Nasriyya Pre-School. Together with the community, we also initiated a refurbishment of the Hulhumeedhoo heritage area.
“BML Eid Vedhun" 2017
This year’s “Eid Vedhun” gift of motorized wheelchairs was presented to 15 mobility-impaired residents on 5 different islands.
“Heyvalla Saafukuruma” Clean Up 2017
An event organized by Maldives Inland Revenue Authority & WAMCO to clean the streets and lagoon of Male' City. Our teams helped to clean 4 areas of the city.

Staff Blood Donation
As part of Aharenge Bank Campaign and to mark the World Blood Donors day 2017, more than 30 of our staff donated blood to Maldives Blood Services.
Contribution to Care Society
We presented the NGO with a cheque for MVR 150,000 which will be used to purchase much needed equipment for a special program run for children with disabilities.
